so how was it?
briefly for me...
great food!
served five hours late though.
a mad acquaintance attempted throwing himself out a 50ft window.
then some party games.
mdma
more games
more mdma
met a lovely lady
went back to hers..
blackouted a bit
then waking up sooo wrong with sex noise fleshing out from the corner.
staggered home and now listening to loud(ish) music.
all in all a bit fragile...

No Christmas for John Quays
Come on get a bit of fucking guts into it
What what
Well the powders reach you
And the powders teach you
But when you find they can't reach you
There is no Christmas for junky
He thinks he is
More interesting
Than the world
Ah but five fags
Puts him in a whirl
I'll have a packet of three-five fives
You fucking [full of money] or something for Christ's sake?
I'll have a packet of three-five fives
I'll have 20 of those over there
I'll have 20 No.6 for a headache
And I've had enough right there, stop
(Why is this)
Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah
He spits in the sky
It falls in his eye
And then he gets to sitting
Talking to his kitten
Talking about Frankie Lymon
Tell me why is it so?
Tell me why is it so?
Why did the sky break today?
Why did this happen today?
He gets out of his face with the Idle Race
He gets out of the room with this tune
Although the skins are thin
He knows its up to him
To go out or stay in
I'll stay in
I'll stay in
Have a break
You
Me
X-Mas
X-Mas
Well the powders reach you
And the powders teach you
But when you find they can't reach you
There is no Christmas for junky
There is no girls
Just the traffic passing by
Bye bye bye bye bye bye bye bye
Open the room, there's a cloud of smoke
Will you fucking get it together instead of showing off?
Give me one
Give me B
Give me three
Give me D
No Xmas for John Quays

Too much rum so I'll be brief. Bracken, quite frankly, is the fucking shit.
I've shown much love here already, so simply... his remix album is sooooo dope.
A perfect example... Buddy Peace steps up to twist things around...

It's been a hectic few days here, so now it's time to calm the fuck down...
Loscil makes soundtracks to 4.00am walks in light tunnels... finding yourself swept away by rising tides... all you can feel is your pulse...
His album 'Plume' is a masterclass of uplifting melancholy and post-death ambience....
two tracks...

He also has a free album to d/l here

Rekids were a most impressive label this year, releasing high quality smacked out house and twitchy techno that works both on headphones and dancefloors. Their compilation 'One' is highly recommended. To give you a taste is Radio Slave's epic remix of possibly my favourite dance song of 2007...

Thank you Mahjongg for making wonky songs that are heavy on percussion and dirty on synths. Your new album 'Kontpab' sounds like it's wearing really dark sunglasses on a pitch black night.
These two tracks are bloody lovely...

This year Odd Nosdam teamed up with Element to score an original soundtrack for one of their skateboarding videos. The music isn't simply a backdrop to the action, Odd Nosdam teamed up with the skaters and film editor to ensure a synergy between skate and sound.
The music itself is rich with texture, tones and drums to die for...
Here's six songs grabbed from the myspace...
One For Dallas
Top Rank
Zone Coaster
Shut This Down
Ethereal Slap
Time Out
The full soundtrack is actually 16 tracks and I don't think a commercial release is planned, so if anyone has it and can sort me out I'd be very grateful.

Remember all those cool squelchy sounds old computer games used to make?
Well wouldn't it be cool if some French geezer came along and made an album that sounds like a distressed amiga that's trying to play along with Apex Twin with short and stabby songs that bounce like an R'n'B singer...
It would yeah..
Then Gouseion is your man and the album is 'Puisne'

If like me you're itching for Why?'s new album 'Alopecia' than The Terrordactyls may be the peoples to tide you over. The similarities are obvious, slightly geeky but endearing vocals. Unusually surreal, absurd and often beautiful lyrics. Oh and the kazoo features a bit too.
It's a comparison I don't make lightly and the songs here are strong enough to hold the weight of it...
I've listened to their s/t 2nd album four times today and it's put a huge smile on my face...
Facelift
Zombie Girl
I Want to Cry
Fall
Devices (ft. Kimya Dawson)
You like those? You can d/l both their albums here
They also have a Christmas present for you too...

Smacktastic.

Much to my shame I've still not heard Thee More Shallows most recent album 'Book of Bad Breaks' but I'm reliably informed that it is an amazing bit of alt-lo-fi-geek-rock.
Anyways I found an Odd Nosdam remix of one of their earlier songs the other day and it's a goodie...

It seems that The Dodos new album 'Visitor' for Frenchkiss Records will be one to watch out for in 2008. The preceding single 'Fools' opens with hypnotic Liars style drumming then beautifully assured vocals kick in that ride the music with ease. It's all so sublimely simple but it worms its way into your brain immediately. The closest comparison I can make is The Hidden Cameras and that's definitely high praise.
Check the video...

Last Sunday I was supposed to be getting on a plane in order to see Why? and Themselves play in Oakland, but because of wrongness I never made it on and ended up back in Brighton feeling fucking shit.
On the journey home I listened to Dntel's remix of 'By Torpedo or Crohn's' on repeat until the right earphone on my really nice earphones fucked up. Grrr. Can someone send me some new ones please?
These two songs are taken from the Anticon/Tomlab 12"s of 'The Hollows'
Both bits of vinyl are worth seeking out... limited to just 1,000 a piece and as well as these remixes feature Why? covers by Xiu Xiu, Half Handed Cloud, Dump (James McNew of Yo La Tengo) and Islands
By Torpedo or Crohn's (Dntel remix)
